The dream that is today Helderberg Breweries started, as these things do, over a weekend beer and a slab of meat. “You know what we should do, start our own brewery”... Bring into the mix a water engineer and a B.comm graduate turned Professional Chef, and you have a classic dream. So in late 2016 a brewing license was granted and the brewery started its first commercial production.
Helderberg Breweries is the very definition of a micro-brewery, holding true to our promise of delivering the finest hand crafted beers to the consumer. Situated in the heart of the Helderberg Valley, surrounded by picturesque mountains, our small team works tirelessly to produce unique beer styles, crafted using traditional methods with a few new world influences.
Part of what makes our beer so special, is the attention we give our product and the hands on approach to beer making. We boast no automated systems or high-end equipment, instead we built our brewery and our brand from the ground up, including all of our equipment. We believe this is what gives our beer its unique characteristics.
We are a small and happy family at Helderberg Breweries. Practically family owned, Matthew our brewer works in the brewery producing the Capes finest beer, while Frisco and Naomi, his parents, hit the road promoting the beer at liquor stores and restaurants. They say never work with family, but in this case, it would not have worked at all without family.
